Obituary - Joy White

 

Joy White, the wife of Hedley,  an ex AWW and ex WAGS Walker passed away on 10th February 2022.

  Myriam writes:

Joy and Hedley met Maurice in an excursion organised by an association called “Casa” back in 1995. Since then they had become good friends.  Whenever the Whites were in the Algarve, they would join in the monthly Saturday walks led by Maurice.  Joy’s cheerful and friendly disposition endeared her to everyone.  She was always kind and helpful.

Though she never did the Round the Corner Walks, she and Hedley would support us by having dinner with us on the evening between legs.. In recent  years, they spent less time in Portugal, but whenever they were here, we would meet up, and Hedley would often walk.. 

She was very close to her 3 sons.  Her passing was a great loss to them and especially to Hedley.  

I have lost a great and caring friend.  

Joy will be sorely missed.  She will be remembered by anyone who had had the pleasure of knowing or meeting her.  

Hedley keeps in constant contact with us. He continues to come to the Algarve.  We will be seeing him often in the future. 

   As Hedley returned for a short admin visit in late February, we took the opportunity to meet him and pass on our condolences at a lunch in Recanto dos Mouros. This visit and lunch is recorded

When Maurice was ailing, Joy and Myriam organised a visit to see Esme and Maurice in his Nursing home 

 

On another occasion, Marguerite joined Hedley, Joy and Myriam and myself at a visit to see Esme for lunch at a local pub.

Joy's funeral was held on Friday 4th March 2022 at Hampden Chapel.
