Hedley's Hasty Visit 24.02.2022

Sadly, Hedley Whyte, our long time, part time AWW and WAG lost his wife Joy very recently. He had to take a short visit to the Algarve for family reasons.  We wanted to meet him while he was here and because of the support of the WAGS who knew him, the occasion turned into a lunch, organised by Myriam and booked by Rod at one of our favourite venues, the Recanto dos Mouros.

A good turnout of 11, from left:  John, Myriam, Hedley, Paul, Antje, Yves, Hazel, Chris, Maria , Rod, and Lindsey

This time we dined on a Thursday, as Recanto is not open on Wednesday, and also because Hedley only arrived at Faro a couple of hours before lunch.

Condolences were given, and we settled down to the usual splendid fare of the Recanto. This time a la Carte.   We followed the usual practice of saying that we would all order what we liked, and pay only for that, to prevent certain people ordering lobster, oysters,  fillet steak and Chateau de Chatelet, but at the end it was all too much trouble and the bill was split 10 ways. One of these days !!

Hedley's Jawali

Hazel's Corvina

Yves' Picanha

My Borrego

A very tasty selection, large portions, yet some still made enough room for dessert, which apparently wasn't recorded.

Some lively banter which thankfully wasn't recorded and which I conveniently can't remember.

A lot of flirting took place!, (with the usual suspects)

Not surprised he needs another drink

The ladies look happier!

Some other pix for the record,

As there were so few pix of Hedley I am posting a library photo of Hedley with Hazel on 12.10.2018, which was taken by John and may have been at the 20th Anniversary lunch of the Algarve Way in 2018

It was very nice of him to join us so soon after his recent loss. Both Rod and Hedley made short addresses, remembering Joy and the times we had. A splendid occasion tempered by sadness. Hedley has promised to come back and join us on a saunter or two whenever he can. His links with Algarve remain strong as his eldest son.
Alistair bought his former house in Carvoeiro, and currently lives there.

To finish off a not entirely inappropriate song about Guests and lunch, called 'The Guest(s), by Leonard Cohen from 2012, live in Madrid.
